Since the summer of 2012, we have been offering a sleepover horseback skills camp for girls aged 8 and older. For summer 2021, the tradition of developing friendships and improving horsemanship continues at our new location in Bellville, TX.
Our campers spend their days immersed in camp life: enjoying all aspects of horse “ownership” and care, improving their riding skills, and sharing happy moments with camp friends. FPRL campers make summer memories that will last a lifetime!
We strive to provide a unique camp experience that allows our campers delve deeper into the development of their equestrian skills, enhance knowledge of equine custody and care, experience off campus activities that are special in our area, and to strengthen our sense of community within our program.
FPRL’s overnight camp program offers campers high quality English and Western riding instruction and an opportunity to interact with and care for our specially trained, camp-owned horses. Campers are also welcome to bring their own horses! FPRL’s overnight camp experience is all about SAFE RIDING, HORSEMANSHIP and FUN!
What to Expect
Sleep-away camp is available to those aged 8+ who are trotting independently and learning to canter, all the way up to our advanced riders jumping courses, learning dressage, and jumping cross country. Sleep-away camp is held in Bellville, TX at our beautiful private farm.
Each camper will be assigned to his/her “own” horse (or bring their own) for the course of the camp (horse and rider appropriately suited). Working together, the camper and horse will become a team by concentrating on the skills of riding. The rider will also be encouraged to understand what their horse is thinking and feeling.
The goal is to better understand and communicate with your mount, so that both horse and rider enjoy their riding time together. In addition to the excitement of riding a horse of his/her “own,” the camper will learn the responsibility and work involved with properly caring for the horse.
Campers will exhibit the proper care of his/her horse including tacking, un- tacking, bathing, grooming and stabling. Campers will be expected to bring in, feed, clean up after, and turnout their own horses each day. Campers will complete one lesson daily and are encouraged to ride a second time each day.
Campers will be grouped according to age and experience in order to offer the most fine-tuned and highest quality riding instruction.
We are able to accommodate a maximum of 8 campers per week. We love keeping our groups small. This enables us to make sure each camper gets enough individual attention so that they may see significant progress in their riding over the course of the week.
